US-Iran nuclear talks

Despite mutual threats, talks between Tehran and Washington will begin this week. As announced by Iran, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday (06.02.2026) in Oman.

This Friday (06.02.2026) Iran, according to its own data, will begin talks with the US in Oman. Talks on the Iranian nuclear program are scheduled for 10:00 Omani time in the capital Muscat, writes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the X platform. "I am grateful to our Omani brothers, who have taken the necessary measures," the ministry added. Earlier, the media in Iran reported a possible failure of the talks. Even from circles in the White House it is said that the US government has accepted the talks, which were moved from Turkey to Oman. Shortly before, there were fears that the plans for the talks could remain in place due to the change in format and content.

US insists Iran ends uranium enrichment

Iran says it is aiming for another meeting than the one proposed by Turkey. The talks should only address the issue of Iran's nuclear program. Also, only Iran and the United States should participate in the talks. The official who provided this information did not want to be identified. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously stated that US representatives are working to have the meeting take place this week. The US is demanding that Iran first and foremost end its uranium enrichment process and limit its missile program. Iran rejects this as an interference in its sovereignty, but at the same time signals its readiness at least for talks regarding the nuclear program agreements.

Threats from Trump again

Shortly before the planned talks between the US and Iran, US President Donald Trump addressed the country's supreme leader with warning words. Asked by NBC News whether Ayatollah Ali Khamenei should be worried right now, Trump replied: "I would say he should be very worried." Trump did not mention a specific reason for this directly. But he referred to the talks that his country will hold with Iran. He said, he has heard, that Iran is trying to rebuild its nuclear program, Trump said in response to a follow-up question. In such a case, the US president threatened to "do bad things" to Iran./ DW
