President Trump holds phone conversation with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping

United States President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping today. The communication was also confirmed by Chinese state media.

According to official reporting, the Xi-Trump phone call took place several hours after Xi spoke on a video call with Putin.

Neither the White House nor the Chinese embassy in Washington released immediate comments on the content of the conversation.

The Russian news agency Interfax quotes a Kremlin spokesman as saying that Moscow was informed in advance of the planned phone call between China and the US.

This was the first phone conversation between the leaders of the two superpowers since November last year, when relations between Beijing and Washington had deteriorated due to tensions with Japan./CNA
