US and Iran agree to hold talks in Oman

The US and Iran have agreed to hold nuclear talks in Oman on Friday, as President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the meeting would begin at 10:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) in Muscat. U.S. officials also confirmed the meeting would take place there.

The talks appeared to be in jeopardy, with the two countries at odds over the location and parameters.

Trump has been building up U.S. forces in the region and threatening military action if Iran does not agree to a deal on its nuclear program and stop killing protesters. Asked whether Khamenei should be concerned, he told NBC News on Wednesday: “I would say he should be very concerned. He should be. As you know, they are negotiating with us.”

Khamenei warned the US on Sunday that any attack on Iran would trigger a "regional war".
