House collapses in Peru/ 10 people die, 5 of the victims were minors

At least 10 people have died after a fire broke out in a house in a poor neighborhood in the Peruvian capital. According to relatives, five of the victims were adults and the other five were children.

Two other people were injured, the civil protection institute INDECI said in a post on social media. The fire broke out early in the morning in a house located in the La Victoria neighborhood of Lima.

Peru's president-elect, Keiko Fujimori, visited the ruins on Wednesday, describing the event as a horrific massacre.  

"What people are looking for is order and security, and that's the first thing we're going to do next week ," she said.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the point of origin, circumstances and causes of this fire. According to local media reports, the fire was started by several individuals who were threatening local businesses.

Colonel John Lujan, who is leading the investigation, said a possible deliberate act or a case of extortion is among the possible causes being investigated. /CNA
