Copenhagen Summit/ Zelensky: Sanctions against Russia are working, the war must

Nordic and Baltic leaders host a summit on Ukraine in Copenhagen with President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss further support for Ukraine in repelling the Russian invasion.

The Ukraine-Nordic-Baltic Summit is attended by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.

After meetings with the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries, Zelensky said in several posts on social media that the Russian economy is in bad shape and that the sanctions are working.

"At the Ukraine-Nordic-Baltic Summit, I noted that the Russian economy is in bad shape: fuel and labor shortages, many industries in decline. Putin constantly humiliates China while trying to sell them as many raw materials as possible. This is significant, the sanctions are working," Zelensky wrote.

Zelensky shed light on some of the discussions at the summit and said that the main task is to stop the war and the killings by Russia. The Ukrainian president expressed enthusiasm that the war will end and that his country will integrate into the EU.

"We have signals from the US about a possible defense agreement, very important. We discussed the role of EU membership in this holistic system of security guarantees. With the current EU presidency from Denmark, we are working together to open the groups up to the EU-27.

"The main task now is to force Russia to stop the killings and the war. We must continue to exert pressure with sanctions and tariffs until Russia understands that this war will end. We will work with Europe, the G7, the G20 and the US. Peace can only be a joint achievement. I am sure it will come," the Ukrainian president said./ CNA
