Russia announces two-day ceasefire in Ukraine for Easter

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a ceasefire for Orthodox Easter with Ukraine, as confirmed by the official Kremlin.

"By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, a ceasefire has been declared on the eve of the upcoming Orthodox Easter holiday, from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, 2026," the statement stressed.  

According to the statement, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov have been instructed to suspend combat operations along all fronts during this period.

According to the Kremlin, troops must be prepared to thwart any possible provocation by the enemy, as well as any aggressive actions, adding that it expects the Ukrainian side to follow Russia./CNA
