White House: Trump will discuss US withdrawal from NATO

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said on Wednesday she would discuss with him the possibility of the United States withdrawing from the alliance.

"I would add that it is very unfortunate that NATO has turned its back on the Americans over the last six weeks, when the Americans are the ones who finance their defense. It is an issue that the president has discussed and I believe it is something that he will discuss in a few hours with Secretary General Rutte. You can get information directly from the president after this meeting," the White House press secretary told reporters.

The statement comes as US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet this week with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte./CNA
