Over 800 ships blocked by restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz

Shipping companies are trying to understand the terms of the US-Iran ceasefire, closely monitoring the situation in Hormuz and putting their ships on standby.

According to a report published by Bloomberg, more than 800 ships are currently stranded in the Persian Gulf, as the Strait of Hormuz has remained under strict Iranian control and essentially closed to unimpeded commercial navigation since late February.

Over the past six weeks, traffic at one of the world's busiest energy hubs has dropped sharply, compared to the roughly 135 ships that passed through daily in peacetime.

It is noted that, according to the website MarineTraffic, two ships have passed through the Strait since Iran agreed to open the strategic passage as part of the ceasefire agreement with the United States.

According to data from the information company 'Kpler', a large portion of the ships blocked in the Persian Gulf transport energy products.

There are currently 426 tankers carrying crude oil and clean fuels, as well as 34 liquefied petroleum gas tankers and 19 liquefied natural gas vessels. The rest carry dry goods, such as agricultural or metal products or containers./CNA
