Seeks further clarification/ One of the Persian Gulf countries does not

The United Arab Emirates has sought further clarification on the ceasefire with Iran to ensure Tehran's full commitment to the ceasefire and the unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement from the country's Foreign Ministry, the UAE also wants Iran to be held accountable for the damage it caused to the country during the war. Unlike some of its Gulf Arab neighbors, Abu Dhabi did not welcome the temporary cessation of hostilities between Iran and the United States, CNN writes.

The UAE also called for a comprehensive and sustainable approach that addresses the full range of Iran's threats, including its nuclear and missile programs, support for proxies, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Anwar Gargash, advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates, said in a post on "X" that observers should not be surprised by the UAE's stance and the foreign ministry's statement.

“Followers should not be surprised, frankly, by the UAE’s stances in confronting Iranian aggression against the Gulf Arab states, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement regarding the ceasefire, which received considerable popular appreciation. This clarity is essential in the wake of a treacherous and premeditated aggression. The era of politeness has passed and candor has become a necessity. Our collective stance must be firm and clear on the characteristics of the next phase, in a way that enhances stability and security in the region,” Gargash’s post reads.

The United Arab Emirates has faced a massive Iranian attack during the war, with nearly half of all missiles aimed at the country intercepted by its air defenses. Even after a ceasefire was reached on Wednesday, Tehran fired missiles and drones at UAE cities. Iranian media described the attacks as a response to previous attacks on Iranian refineries. /CNA
