Russia intensifies attacks in Ukraine/ Pope Leo XIV calls: The sound of guns must be silenced

Pope Leo XIV has reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire and serious efforts in the name of dialogue, as Russia intensifies its attacks on cities across Ukraine.

"The sound of weapons must be silenced and the voice of fraternity and justice must prevail," the Pope said.

Speaking at Sunday's Mass, the Pope renewed his closeness to the Ukrainian people, lamenting the destruction and continuing deaths that the war has caused.

He urged everyone to avoid succumbing to indifference, but instead to reach out with prayer and concrete acts of charity, reiterating his call for a ceasefire.

"It is time for those in power to abandon the logic of arms and follow the path of negotiations and peace, with the support of the international community," the Pope said.

The Pope called for an immediate ceasefire and prayed for the victims of the shooting at a Catholic school in Minnesota and the migrants killed off the coast of Mauritania. /CNA
