"I look forward to meeting him in Davos this week"/ NATO chief holds

NATO chief Mark Rutte announced today that he had a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland. In his response, Rutte said that he would meet with Trump in Davos later this week. 

"I spoke with the US President about the security situation in Greenland and the Arctic. We will continue to work on this and I look forward to seeing him in Davos later this week," Rutte wrote in a post on the "X" platform.

Some NATO member states have suggested that Trump's attempt to seize Greenland threatens the entire NATO alliance.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose new tariffs on a number of European countries that export goods to the US, starting February 1.

Trump said these will remain in effect until an agreement is reached for the full and total purchase of Greenland by the US.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump said that countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will be charged a 10% tariff on every good shipped to the United States. On June 1, this will increase to 25%, the US president announced. /CNA
