Trump administration seeks $1 billion from each country on Gaza Peace Board

US President Donald Trump's administration wants nations to pay $1 billion to stay on its Gaza Peace Board for more than three years, according to the full text of the board's charter, which has been analyzed by international media.

"Each Member State shall serve for a term of not more than three years from the entry into force of this Charter, subject to renewal by the Chairman, who shall be US President Donald Trump. The three-year term of membership shall not apply to Member States that contribute more than US$1,000,000,000 in cash funds to the Peace Board within the first year of the entry into force of the Charter," the statute states. 

The Board is described in its statute as "an international organization that seeks to promote stability, restore credible and legitimate governance, and ensure lasting peace in areas affected by or threatened by conflict."

Trump has invited a number of world leaders, including Javier Milley of Argentina and Mark Carney of Canada, to be part of a Gaza Peace Board, which will be formed under the broader umbrella of his new Peace Board, while the invitation has also been extended to Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama. /CNA
