Indonesian authorities have launched a search for a small plane carrying 11 people that disappeared from radar while flying over eastern Indonesia.
The plane, owned by Indonesia Air Transport, was heading to Makassar, South Sulawesi, after taking off from Yogyakarta on Java island, with three passengers and eight crew members on board. Contact was lost shortly after 1:00 p.m. local time.
The head of the local search and rescue service, Muhammad Arif Anwar, said teams were deployed to a mountainous area in the Maros region, about 42 km from the provincial capital Makassar, where the plane was last seen. The air force, police and volunteers are involved in the ground and air search.
Andy Sultan, the director of operations for the Makassar search and rescue service, said a helicopter and a drone had been sent to the area to find the plane. /CNA
