Spanish Defense Minister's Plane Suffers GPS Failure While Traveling Over

A Spanish military plane with the defense minister on board suffered a GPS malfunction this Wednesday while flying over the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

The A330 aircraft was en route to Lithuania on Wednesday morning and was flying over Kaliningrad when the incident occurred, according to Spain's defense ministry.

Defense Minister Margarita Robles was on a flight to Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania, which is part of the NATO air policing mission. Also on board were relatives of Spanish troops stationed at the base and journalists.

The apparent attempt to disrupt the plane's GPS did not affect the flight, as the plane receives its signal from a military satellite, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo. /CNA
