Former US President Joe Biden is undergoing radiotherapy and hormone therapy as part of a new phase of treatment for aggressive prostate cancer diagnosed after he left office.

"As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiotherapy and hormone therapy ," said his spokeswoman, Kelly Scully.

In May of this year, Biden's office announced that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and that it had spread to his bones. Prostate cancers are rated for their aggressiveness using what is known as a Gleason score. Scores range from 6 to 10, with prostate cancers 8, 9 and 10 being the most aggressive. Biden's office said his score was 9, suggesting his cancer is among the most aggressive.

Biden is a prominent American politician who was the 46th President of the United States from 2021 to 2025. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 47th Vice President from 2009 to 2017 under President Barack Obama and represented Delaware in the U.S. Senate from 1973 to 2009. /CNA
