British jets carry out 12-hour mission with US and NATO near Russian border

Britain announced on Saturday that two Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft carried out a 12-hour mission earlier this week, alongside US and NATO forces, to patrol along the border with Russia.

This mission took place after a series of violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones and aircraft recently.

"This was an important joint mission with our US and NATO allies," said British Defence Minister John Healey.

"Not only does this provide valuable information to strengthen the operational awareness of our Armed Forces, but it also sends a powerful message that NATO stands united to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and our adversaries," Healey added.

An electronic surveillance aircraft, the RC-135 Rivet Joint, and a maritime patrol aircraft, the P-8A Poseidon, flew from the Arctic region over Belarus and Ukraine on Thursday, supported by a U.S. Air Force KC-135 refueling aircraft.

Britain said the operation followed violations of the airspace of several NATO member countries, including Poland, Romania and Estonia.
