The Specialist Chambers have today published images from the premises where the four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Hashim Thaçi, Rexhep Selimi, Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, are being held as detainees in The Hague.

These facilities include a gym, a day lounge where they can socialize, and a room dedicated to family gatherings.

“Defendants who are detained before or during their trial in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers are held in the Detention Centre in The Hague. There, they have access to fresh air and exercise, can socialise, receive visitors and participate in religious services. Detention before or during a trial is only carried out when it is necessary to prevent a significant risk, e.g. the risk that the defendant will attempt to intimidate or influence witnesses. Every two months, the Judges of the Kosovo Specialist Court will review the detention to consider whether the detention is still necessary and reasonable,” the announcement says.

The former KLA leaders are facing trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, while the Specialized Prosecutor's Office has requested a total of 180 years in prison for them. /CNA
