The second phase of the Skilled Worker Immigration Act in Germany came into effect on March 1, 2024, opening the way for many skilled foreign workers to settle in the country and work in their field. 

While the first phase was introduced in November 2023 and mainly included relief for the "EU Blue Card" and for recognized skilled workers, the new phase brings many changes, including the possibility of coming to Germany to work for foreigners with two years of work experience, professional experience and a professional or university degree.

The third phase of the law will enter into force months later this year, on June 1, 2024, and among other things will introduce the job search opportunity card, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.

In November last year, Reuters reported that 1.8 million jobs remain unfilled in the German economy as a whole. While an analysis made by the German Economic Institute has predicted that the lack of qualified workers in the renewable energy industry alone will reach 300,000 by 2030. /CNA
