Up to 300 million euros/ Mitsotakis announces measures to increase fuel prices

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced measures to support Greek families from the ever-rising price of fuel, amounting to 300 million euros.

Local media report that Mitsotakis limited himself to announcing intervention in the cost of oil, special support in the form of a Digital Fuel Card, interventions for farmers and special compensation for ferry companies.

Full statement from Mitsotakis: 

Since the beginning of the conflict in Iran, I declared that the government would take initiatives to build a "reinforcement" against the consequences of the new major crisis. We immediately moved to the geopolitical field, defending Cyprus, stability and energy security in the region.

At the same time, however, we must support families and businesses in the face of international economic instability. Particularly in the area of ??fuels, as these are linked to production costs, rising product prices, but also to the daily lives of citizens.

You know that Greece is already leading the way in shaping a unified European response. Until then, however, the government is determined to act unilaterally, at the national level. Always within the framework of our budgetary capabilities.

So, today I am announcing a package of four targeted measures, which will be implemented for the months of April and May. The amount of the program is about 300 million. While the support they include is aimed at almost the entire population.

Specifically:

First, in order to limit the negative impact of the global increase in oil prices on the supply chain, on the movement of goods and on agricultural production, we are intervening in the cost of diesel fuel. Therefore, the state will subsidize it, in the distribution network, by 16 cents per liter. Which means that the benefit for the consumer and the professional in the final price - including VAT - will reach 20 cents per liter. I repeat: our goal here is that the increase in production costs is not transferred to the prices of products.

Secondly, in order to strengthen families against rising petrol prices, special support is being offered in the form of a Digital Fuel Card. This can be used at petrol stations, on public transport and in taxis. Support which is calculated on average at 36 cents per litre. This means, with an average monthly consumption of 70 litres, the measure translates into 50 euros in two months for the mainland and 60 euros for our islands. The criteria for issuing this card will be expanded, in order to cover approximately 3 out of 4 million vehicle owners.

Këto janë masa që forcojnë "rezistencën" sociale në kohë të turbullta. Megjithatë, ato nuk e dobësojnë thelbin e kësaj përpjekjeje, as nuk rrezikojnë atë që kemi arritur.

Dhe meqenëse askush nuk e di se sa do të zgjasë kjo luftë, ne padyshim po mbajmë rezerva në rast se situata ekonomike globale përkeqësohet ndjeshëm.

Mesazhi ynë, pra, është një: qeveria mbetet dhe do të mbetet në krah të çdo burri dhe gruaje greke, siç ka bërë në çdo moment të vështirë deri më tani. Ndërsa atdheu ynë do të kapërcejë përsëri të gjitha stuhitë e shkaktuara nga ngjarjet përtej kufijve të tij, duke pasur si armë të përditshme unitetin dhe kohezionin e tij shoqëror./CNA
