BBC: First Gaza 'Peace Board' meeting to be held in Washington on

Former US President Donald Trump has announced plans to host the inaugural meeting of the "Peace Board," an international initiative focused on Gaza and its reconstruction after the long conflict.

The first meeting, as reported by the BBC, is expected to take place on February 19 in Washington, at the premises of the US Institute of Peace.

The meeting aims to serve as a forum for world leaders to discuss the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and secure funds for the reconstruction of the war-torn territory. Invited participants include leaders who have accepted Trump's invitations to join the board, as well as members of an executive committee that will oversee governance, security and development issues in Gaza.

Previous clashes over the creation of the Peace Board have prompted mixed reactions in the international arena. While some countries have joined the initiative, many European allies and traditional US partners are reluctant or have refused to join, expressing concerns that the board could undermine the role of long-standing institutions such as the United Nations Security Council.

The day before the summit, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to meet with Trump at the White House, a meeting that could mark the widest possible cooperation between Israel and the international initiative for the pacification and reconstruction of Gaza.

The Peace Board was formed as part of a broader plan negotiated by Trump to establish a ceasefire and help stabilize the area after the war between Israel and Hamas. It aims to find international funding and support for reconstruction, but has sparked debate about its role, including a lack of broad Palestinian representation and criticism of its mandate.
