Deputy Governor Natasha Ahmetaj, part of the Summit: Diaspora, a global

As part of the Albanian Diaspora Summit with the theme "Through our roots we rise", the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Albania, Ms. Natasha Ahmetaj, participated as a speaker in the panel on the topic: "Albanian Diaspora as a supporting partner for European integration and sustainable development".

The panel, held under the auspices of the Minister of State and the Chief Negotiator, addressed the role of the Albanian diaspora as a strategic actor in accelerating the country's European integration, as well as in supporting sustainable economic development.

During her speech, Ahmetaj emphasized the importance of the diaspora as an important source of human and financial capital for Albania.

She underlined that emigration is a global phenomenon with wide economic impact, while remittances constitute an important contribution to the Albanian economy, accounting for a significant share in household income and gross domestic product.

In this context, Ahmetaj stated that the Bank of Albania has undertaken a series of reforms to formalize and increase the efficiency of remittance sending channels, aiming to reduce costs and increase families' access to the financial system.

This creates the conditions for transforming remittance income into an economic resource for poverty alleviation and long-term economic growth. She also focused on the drafting of a dedicated strategy for small-value payments by the Bank of Albania, the adoption of the legal framework for payment services, and the promotion of the development of the fintech sector, which enables a wider reach of financial services, especially in underserved areas.

Deputy Governor Ahmetaj also highlighted an important milestone, Albania's membership in the SEPA area, which represents an important step towards financial integration in the EU. This development is expected to bring concrete benefits to Albanian citizens and businesses, by reducing transfer costs and increasing the efficiency of cross-border payments and fostering innovation.

Ahmetaj further underlined the importance of innovation in future economic development, emphasizing that human capital and expertise are key factors for Albania's integration into global production chains. In this regard, she praised the role of the diaspora as an important bridge for the transfer of knowledge, experience and international best practices.

In conclusion, Deputy Governor Ahmetaj emphasized that the Albanian financial system is ready to support innovative initiatives and development projects, encouraging closer cooperation with the diaspora to most effectively utilize the shared potential in the service of the country's sustainable development./ CNA
