The mayor of Rrogozhina surrenders

The Mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, has surrendered to the Kavaja police.

He was found guilty of active electoral corruption committed in collusion and sentenced to 1 year in prison by the Special Court of Appeal.

With the Appeals Court's decision, the sentence becomes final and Memolla will serve his prison sentence.

The trial panel dismissed the appeal filed by the defense, fully confirming the decision previously issued by the GJKKO.

As a result, Memolla finally loses his mandate as mayor and the way is opened for procedures to implement the criminal decision.

After the announcement of the final decision, early elections for mayor are expected to be announced in the Municipality of Rrogozhina.

According to the law, elections must be held within 45 days.

SPAK's investigations have established and proven that Memolla, in the local by-elections of March 6, 2022, influenced electrician Blerim Xhamani not to cut off the electricity supply to a debtor subscriber, with the aim of voting in his favor, and communicated with him about employment in the Rrogozhina Municipality, in exchange for votes./ CNA
