Live broadcasts of hearings in the media endanger the lives of witnesses
Ilir Meta, hearing at the GJKKO

Ilir Meta has repeatedly requested that his trial at the GJKKO, the court sessions, be live, and be broadcast in the media.

Erion Veliaj has also started to take the same line, who, through his lawyers, seems to be following Ilir Meta step by step.

In fact, live trials are like those from Enver's time in cinemas where people gathered, whereas now there is a signal and you can watch it from the comfort of your home.

Live court hearings have a profound problem that many international courts have given a very important standard to.

First, the fact that not every witness can speak the same way in a court hearing or under the attention of cameras, knowing that the whole country is watching.

Secondly, collaborators of justice are exposed in live sessions.

This is clear and proven.

Which of the witnesses who is a collaborator with justice, with cameras in front of them, with the media that shouts and screams, with the constant pressure that will come from newspapers, portals and television stations connected to the interests of Ilir Meta, Erion Veliaj, or any other defendant, would be able to cope psychologically?

That's why the sessions are not held behind closed doors, they are open, they have the presence of journalists who follow them in the courtroom, they have the presence of cameras in a certain segment of the opening of the court session so that the cameras can make plans and then they leave and the trial takes place.

This is what happens in Europe, everywhere.

There are no live trials with cameras because witnesses and justice collaborators are at risk, and live broadcasting could also jeopardize the court case and the positions, knowing the security standard that exists, especially in Albania.

Therefore, in most European countries, not to mention the USA, court hearings are held with journalists without the presence of cameras and then at the end of the hearing, the lawyers hold statements, as is common in Albania, where the appearances of defense attorneys in front of the doors of the SPAK or GJKKO have now become a daily "show".

Sessions with live cameras and loudly opened doors bring nothing but intimidation of witnesses and pressure, blackmail on justice collaborators, why not on the court and the prosecutors themselves./ CNA
