"Technology cannot replace books"/ Nora Malaj: We must restore balance in education

2026-07-04 19:05:00, Aktualitet CNA

Some of the most developed countries are returning to the use of pen and paper, limiting technology in the learning process. In an interview with CNA TV, former Deputy Minister of Education, Nora Malaj, stated that Albania is still in the experimentation phase and needs to find a balance between technology and books.

According to her, the use of technology should serve as a supporting tool and not as a substitute for traditional learning methods.

Malaj emphasized that another important challenge remains the continuous training and qualification of teachers. She also called for the revision of the educational curriculum and the adaptation of teaching methods to today's reality. According to her, the new generations learn and solve problems differently from previous generations, so the education system must also evolve.

Pedagogy underlined that only through this balance can the quality of education be improved.

" We have a problem in the way we will orient ourselves towards the teaching market. We are seeing that developed countries, such as Denmark, Norway and other countries, are giving up on tablets or phones or information in electronic format. And they are once again returning to books and pencils. While we are in the phase where we are doing these kinds of experiments. Then we need to see how far we can go and how we can realize both alternatives. To train both, both the book and the pencil, but also the tablet, but not to take up more time. The third and very important is the preparation of... the qualification of teachers to have the knowledge and to be part of... the contemporary curriculum. The fourth, the revision of the curriculum, which is a necessity and has become a need, since the teacher should not be an administrator, but should be what is called a leader, who helps in the teaching process. And the fifth, children today are different from "The children of your generation are not comparable to my generation at all, which means this is the so-called Generation Z, which has a different approach to problems, who want their mechanisms to be realized in other times and with other models ," said the pedagogue./CNA
