Lawyers' strategy/ Hearing for Veliaj expected to be postponed

The preliminary hearing for the dismissed and arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is expected to be postponed.

Veliaj's lawyers have been postponing hearings for weeks using various means. This is a strategy that has been reported before.

We recall that the preliminary hearing for Veliaj was previously postponed due to the lawyers' boycott on October 10, following the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom, while the second time, on October 21, it was postponed due to the boycott following the lawyer's arrest in Elbasan.

While on September 29, the preliminary hearing was postponed due to the lack of notification for some of the defendants.

SPAK has copied the file and sent Veliaj's file for trial, listing 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

Veliaj has been charged 9 times with corruption, abuse of office, bringing prohibited items into the cell, concealing assets, and laundering the proceeds of crime./ CNA
