From September 1st/ Screening for cervical cancer through self-examination

From September 1, all women in the 40–50 age group can volunteer to be screened for cervical cancer.

This age group can become part of the national screening program by requesting tests through their family doctor.

"From September 1, women born between 1975 and 1985 should go to their family doctor to participate in this screening. The test is equipped with a set of information, both descriptive and graphic. The woman will be able to take this test in personal, private conditions, near the health center or in her home. Women who are found positive by this program do not all have cervical cancer, but it is an alert that should make this woman follow up further in the public health system for an early detection of cervical cancer," says Kozeta Filipi, researcher at the IHP.

This program aims to test around 10,000 women across the country each year, and statistics over the past 7 years have shown that every year 7% of them are infected with the Human Papillomavirus throughout Albania. /CNA
