The Head of the National Emergency, Skënder Brataj, has shared some news regarding the expected situation of flu cases in the country.

In a video posted online, Brataj explains that this year there is expected to be an increased number of flu cases, due to a new strain of flu coming from Australia and will increase circulation during the fall-winter period.

"A short but very important message about what awaits us next fall-winter. Usually we are always based on the southern hemisphere, in which at the moment it is the winter period and the high number of flu infections is at very high figures compared to last year. 

The benchmark for this at the moment is Australia, where the number of new cases is over 70 percent. The number of hospitalizations is over 50 percent at the moment. The use of pre-hospital emergency and ambulances is currently almost doubled.

What is expected to come to Albania and Europe in the fall and winter? It is expected to circulate as usual, like every year, the virus is now circulating in the southern hemisphere, namely in Australia, and at this moment 2 subtypes of the flu are circulating there.

Influenza type AH1N1 and influenza type BI subtype B victoria. The groups most at risk are the elderly, pregnant women, children and people with comorbidities, regardless of their age.

What should we do? As every year, vaccination with the flu vaccine is carried out, which greatly prevents infection.

Looking at these figures for the southern hemisphere, it is expected that in Albania and Europe the intensity of the flu this year will be much higher than last year.
