The General Directorate of Prisons has shared an announcement regarding the case of a 34-year-old citizen, who is accommodated in Pojska prison together with her 11-month-old baby.

Based on the announcement, citizen DS, sentenced to two months in prison, is staying together with her child in an environment adapted for mothers to stay with their children, based on the legislation in force.

Announcement:

In accordance with the legislation in force, which guarantees the protection of the rights of mothers deprived of their liberty and the best interest of the child, the convict with the initials DS, sentenced to 2 (two) months in prison, has been accommodated at the Pojska Penitentiary Institution, together with her 11-month-old baby.

During the admission procedures to the institution, the citizen with the initials DS exercised the right provided for by Law No. 81/2020 "On the Rights and Treatment of Prisoners and Detainees" and the General Prison Regulations, to keep her child under the age of 3 with her.

After completing the legal procedures and administering the relevant documentation, the baby was accommodated in special facilities of the institution, outside the internal regime, facilities adapted for mothers to stay with their children.

An individualized care plan has been developed for the mother and child, which includes safety measures, healthcare, nutrition according to needs, as well as psychological and social support.

The implementation of this plan is monitored by the institution's multidisciplinary staff, with the aim of guaranteeing the well-being of the mother and child, as well as respect for their rights, in accordance with applicable legislation and standards. /CNA
