Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha participated in the Ministerial on the return of political terrorism, convened by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in Washington, United States of America.

At the Ministerial, attended by representatives from more than 60 countries, Hoxha emphasized that political extremism and the use of violence to achieve political objectives constitute a direct attack on democracy itself.

"Albania's position is clear: in a democracy, there is neither a place nor justification for violence as a political tool. Our history reminds us of this kind of danger. Once a brutal communist dictatorship, living in a world without light and without hope, today as a determined democracy, a committed NATO ally, a candidate country to soon join the European Union, and a close partner of the United States, we in Albania know the price of freedom and the importance of protecting hard-won democratic values ," Hoxha declared.

The Minister stated that democratic resistance should be emphasized, and that foreign information manipulation and interference should be combated. During his speech, he also touched on Iran's ongoing cyberattacks on Albania.

"Faced with ongoing cyber and hybrid attacks from Iran, Albania has developed considerable resilience and capabilities, an area where vigilance and continued investment are essential," he said.

He further added that international cooperation is necessary.

"In today's interconnected world, no country is immune. Democracies speak the same language. Therefore, they must cooperate more closely, share information, exchange best practices and mobilize all available means to address common challenges that threaten our security, our institutions and our democratic way of life," concluded Hoxha. /CNA
