The 62-year-old man was arrested after he had adapted an area of ??his apartment in the village of Qilarisht as a slaughterhouse and dumped the remains into the Vjosa River.

In continuation of the work to prevent, identify and combat environmental crimes, the services of the Përmet Police Commissariat and the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Gjirokastër AKU, based on the information provided that a citizen had adapted an environment as a slaughterhouse outside the minimum hygienic and sanitary conditions and was dumping the waste generated from this activity into the Vjosa River, exercised control in this environment.

During the search of the apartment of citizen AL, an environment adapted as a slaughterhouse for small livestock was found, where dozens of cattle were found in the process of being slaughtered, as well as some of them already slaughtered. Also, dozens of cattle registers, suspected to be falsified, were found.

Following the inspection, the Police and AKU services found a pipeline through which slaughter waste was discharged and dumped into the Vjosa River, causing environmental and water pollution.

The AKU intervened immediately by blocking the premises where this illegal activity was being carried out, initiated the relevant administrative procedures and punished the owner of the premises with an administrative fine of 200,000 new lek.

At the conclusion of the actions, specialists for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes arrested in flagrante delicto citizen AL, 62 years old, resident of the village of Qilarisht, Përmet, owner of the premises, for the criminal offenses of "Hiding income", "Illegal production of industrial and food items and goods", "Forgery of seals, stamps or forms" and "Water pollution".

Also, citizens LD, 54 years old, and YH, 66 years old, both residents of Përmet, with the duty of veterinarians, were criminally prosecuted for the criminal offense of "Abuse of duty", as it is suspected that they did not exercise controls and did not take the measures required by law for the 62-year-old's livestock.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action.
