This Saturday, the Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora and Kanina, Monsignor Ignati, passed away at the age of 89.

The news was confirmed by Radio Njjallja.

The Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora and Kanina, Monsignor Ignati (Trianti), was an Arvanita originally from Thiva, and spoke the Albanian language.

He completed his studies at the "Patmiadha" Church School, at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens and at the Piraeus Conservatory.

Monsignor Ignati served as a preacher and lay teacher in the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. In 1967, he was ordained a deacon and priest by the Metropolitan of Thiva and Livadhya, Nikodimi, and served as a priest in the Cathedral Church and as the Archhieratic Epitrop of Thiva (1967-1972), the Abbot of the holy monastery "Oshinar Llukai" of Livadhya (1968- 1976) and of the monastery "Oshnar Serafimi", of Dhomvus (1975-1996), preacher (1972-1992) and spiritual of this Metropolis (1962-1996).

The Metropolitan wrote the three-volume collection "Poems of Kallogjer" and the books "Humility according to the Holy Scriptures and Church Fathers".

He was honored by the Academy of Athens for his last book: "Jerondi of Patmos, hieromonk Amfilohios Makri".

On June 24, 1992, he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora and Kanina. He resigned as bishop on June 27, 1996 and was enthroned by the Archbishop, His Beatitude Anastasi, on July 18, 1998, in Berat./ CNA
