"Security must be restored, no more private guards"/ Malaj: Judges

The former head of the Court of Appeal, Alaudin Malaj, has commented on the serious incident where Judge Aastrit Kalaja was executed inside the courtroom at the Court of Appeal by the representative of one of the parties in a property trial.

"Something terrible for me happened at the Tirana Court of Appeal, in the center of Tirana. Expressing my condolences to the family of Judge Kalaja, I knew him personally. He was a career judge, he had never failed, this was a flagrant case. Everyone spoke with pity about the judge, I had him by my side, I experienced what kind of person he was. It is a popular expression, the good is easier to shoot than the bad," said Malaj.

Malaj said that Kalaja was a judge with a brilliant career and his murder was fatal.

"We didn't lose a judge, but a judge with a brilliant career. As for the incident, it was fatal for me."

The former head of the Court of Appeals said that judges should be rearmed as they were before 2013, as this would restore security.

"In my time, there were attempts by armed or unarmed people to shoot a judge. But comparing that time to today, there is a big difference. Before, the judges were all armed, but with the arrival of the left-wing government, their weapons were taken away. Even when they give them weapons, they tell them to keep them at home."

The first thing that needs to be urgently restored to before 2013 is that they need to be armed. The restoration of security. When I was the leader, it was the police who provided security, not private guards. The incident did not happen by chance. The Court of Appeal is the most important in the Republic of Albania. In these conditions, all of this has been neglected," said Malaj./ CNA
