Agreement reached on oil subsidy/Public transport returns to normal

Public transport will return to normal. According to the president of the Urban and Intercity Transport Association, Dashnor Memaj, an agreement has been reached between ministries and public transport operators on fuel subsidies.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the value of the subsidy will be determined in the coming days. Memaj told Monitor that another meeting will be held next week to discuss other economic requirements, such as VAT, excise duty, and categories that travel for free.

"We had a meeting with the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Infrastructure and the mayor, we agreed that transport will return to normal and there will be a subsidy of lek per liter, but the value will be under discussion. From today, transport will continue at full capacity, because the operators also want to provide the service properly due to what was seen these two days. We will have another meeting next week to discuss other economic requirements, such as VAT, excise duty, categories that travel for free," said Memaj.

We recall that yesterday and this morning a serious situation developed in the public transport of the capital, because a significant part of the urban buses did not go into circulation today. Operators reduced the service by about 40%, arguing that the increased costs, especially for fuel, have become unaffordable. /CNA
