Appeal against the measure "Arrest with imprisonment" / Constitutional

The Constitutional Court has rejected the request of former minister Ilir Beqaj, who had opposed the court decisions that had assigned him the personal security measure of "prison arrest".

Beqaj had requested the annulment of the decisions of the special courts and the Supreme Court, claiming that they were contrary to the Constitution, and had requested that the case be returned for retrial at the first instance.

In its decision, the Constitutional Court assessed that the restriction of Beqaj's personal freedom was made in accordance with the law and on the basis of reasonable suspicion for the criminal offenses for which he is being investigated. According to the court, the court's decisions were based on the evidence and the circumstances of the criminal investigation.

The decision, which was taken by majority vote, is final and enters into force immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette./ CNA
