Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are preparing for the upcoming arrival of the Boeing Company's first manned space probe. The last crew members arrived with the company's SpaceX probe at the orbital laboratory on March 5. NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps says she was blown away by the flight and the "breathtaking" views of Earth from space.

NASA astronauts Jeanette Epps and Michael Barratt arrived at the International Space Station on March 5, where they will oversee the arrival of a new probe during their half-year stay.

They replaced a crew from the United States, Denmark, Japan and Russia who had been there since August.

The crew's six-month stay includes preparations for the arrival of a new NASA probe.

Boeing's new Starliner probe with test pilots is expected to arrive at the International Space Station next week.

"We're going to analyze every detail of the flight, the docking and every other little thing during this operation. It's exciting because we're dealing with a new vehicle," NASA astronaut Michael Barratt said of the arrival of the Starliner capsule. .

NASA astronaut Jeanette Epps of Syracuse, New York, is the second black woman assigned to a long-duration mission to the International Space Station.

She said before the flight that she is especially proud to be an example for African-American women, demonstrating that spaceflight "is an option for them, that it's not just for people of other races."

As an engineer, she worked for Ford and the CIA before becoming an astronaut in 2009.

She says that arriving in space was very exciting after many years of waiting.

"I was amazed by the many things I saw in space, including Earth and the other planets," she says.

Michael Barratt, a doctor on his third mission, is the oldest astronaut to fly in space. He turned 65 on April 16.

"Whatever factor age may have played, I overcame it because I adapted faster. This was my third space flight," he said.

Of course, soon NASA will send astronauts to the moon again.

Although the first human landing on the moon in more than 50 years was delayed by a year, it is expected to take place in 2026.

Astronauts Epps and Barratt will stay in space for six months. They will return to Earth in September./ VOA
