What do patients think about the use of AI in medicine? Who trusts it and who doesn't, and to what extent? According to a study, patients in poorer health are less likely to trust medicine based on artificial intelligence.
What did the research show about trust in AI?
The study, published in the scientific journal JAMA Network Open, was based on nearly 14,000 patients from 74 clinics in 43 countries. In it, participants were examined in radiology departments, and underwent X-rays, CT scans and MRIs, in order to cover a wide range of diseases from which they may have suffered.
Based on the survey results, 57.6% of patients had a positive attitude towards the use of artificial intelligence. Men were slightly more positive about its use, at 59.1%, compared to women, who were slightly less positive, at 55.6%.
It was observed that acceptance increased with the level of familiarity with the technology and understanding of artificial intelligence. A percentage of 83.3% of highly informed participants were positive. However, the most seriously ill patients had the worst attitude towards AI./CNA
