Artificial intelligence-powered stethoscope detects serious heart problems in
Stethoscopes that use artificial intelligence could help identify three different heart problems instantly, according to a new British study.

The classic device, invented in 1816, allows doctors to listen to the body's internal sounds.

The modern version, developed by a team from Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, can detect heart failure, valve disease and arrhythmias almost instantly.

The new tool replaces the traditional diaphragm with a device the size of a playing card, which uses a microphone to record changes in the sound of the heartbeat and blood flow, which cannot be perceived by the human ear.

At the same time, it performs an electrocardiogram and sends the data to the cloud, where it is analyzed by artificial intelligence trained on data from tens of thousands of patients.

The study involved more than 12,000 patients at 96 practices in London using artificial intelligence stethoscopes from US company Eko Health. They were compared with patients from 109 practices where the technology was not used. /CNA
