Samsung's profits fall to the lowest level in 8 years

Samsung's quarterly profits fell to an eight-year low as customers bought fewer mobile phones and laptops.

The tech giant reported operating profit of 4.3 trillion Korean won ($3.5 billion) on Tuesday for the three months ended December, down 69% from a year earlier. Revenue fell 8% to just under 70.5 trillion won ($57.3 billion), it said in a statement.

It was the company's weakest quarterly profit since the third quarter of 2014, when the smartphone business lost ground to competitors.

Rezultatet e zymta ishin parashikuar. Samsung (SSNLF) kishte shënuar performancën e dobët në një parashikim paraprak të fitimeve në fillim të këtij muaji, me analistët që përmendën rënien e çmimeve të çipave të kujtesës dhe më pak porosi të pajisjeve të konsumatorit.

Në një prezantim për investitorët, prodhuesi i elektronikës konfirmoi se "kërkesa për celular dhe PC ishte e dobët" dhe biznesi i tij i çipave të memories kishte pësuar gjithashtu rënie "pasi klientët vazhduan të rregullonin inventarët e tyre mes pasigurive të thelluara".

Samsung pret që disa nga këto probleme të vazhdojnë në muajt e ardhshëm për shkak të pasigurisë ekonomike globale, megjithëse parashikon që kërkesa e përgjithshme të fillojë të rimëkëmbet në gjysmën e dytë të vitit.
