Valiev is world runner-up, injury deprives him of the gold medal

Chermen Valiev is declared the world vice-champion in wrestling in the 74 kilogram freestyle category. The Russian with Albanian citizenship did not make it to the finals as he was defeated 8 to 2 by the Japanese Takahashi. The Russian athlete Valiev, who represents the red and black colors, thus gave Albania the silver medal, after ranking second in the world.

A serious injury in the final denied the Albanian wrestler the gold medal. It is suspected that he tore ligaments, but he still had a championship to remember by taking the silver medal.

The Russian athlete had secured the medal area after reaching the grand final, as he defeated Sidakov in the semifinals with a score of 6 to 4. Meanwhile, in the quarterfinals, Valiev defeated American David Aron, defeating the latter 7-5.
