Errors in Verona-Juventus, Italian referee punished

Italian referee Antonio Rapuano is again at the center of controversy, this time after the Verona-Juventus match at the "Bentegodi" stadium.

Just a week ago, he was in the news for a cancelled penalty in the Lecce-Torino duel. In the last match, his decisions caused strong reactions, especially from coach Tudor.

Rapuano awarded Verona a penalty after the ball touched Joao Mario's arm, a decision that was disputed over the interpretation of the "unexpected ball" rule. He was also criticized for not showing a red card to defender Orban after an elbow on opponent Gattin.

According to Italian media, the errors have been deemed serious by the Italian Referees Association. The 40-year-old, born in Rimini, risks a temporary suspension from the Italian football elite. There is talk of a relegation to Serie B for a few weeks, as a form of punishment and reflection.
