Unexpected / Resulted in doping, Mudryk leaves football for another sport

Mykhailo Mudryk, suspended from football in the fall of 2024 after a doping case, may change his career direction.

According to MARCA, the former Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk striker is training with the Ukrainian national track and field team. He aims to compete in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Mudryk, known for his speed of up to 36.67 km/h in the Premier League, hopes to translate that ability into athletic results. His football career was halted after testing positive for a banned substance in March 2025, which led to his suspension from the English FA.

With Ukraine's strong tradition in athletics, the former player is working with Olympic coaches to meet the necessary standards.

To secure participation, he must meet the standards required by the World Athletics Federation and qualify for the Ukrainian trials in 2027. His switch from football to athletics is already one of the most talked-about topics in international sport.
