Calhanoglu totally disappoints, Asllani's departure leaves Inter "exposed"

Hakan Calhanoglu has had a difficult summer amid rumours of a return to Galatasaray and criticism after poor performances with Inter and the Turkish national team. After being suspended in the first match of the championship, he returned to the starting line-up, but against Udinese he showed physical difficulties and disengagement from the game.

Even with Turkey, in the 0-6 defeat to Spain, his performance was considered below par. Meanwhile, coach Chivu has begun experimenting with other schemes and has given space to young players like Petar Sucic and Andy Diouf.

This calls into question Calhanoglu's role as an irreplaceable player in the black and blue midfield. The departure of Asllan in the summer had made the Turk the only natural player in that role, but other alternatives are being tested.

The next match against Juventus will be an important test for the Turkish midfielder. Chivu's decision could show whether Inter are ready to think about a midfield without Calhanoglu.
