The early tradition of the Orthodox Church/Holy Metropolis of Korça

The Holy Metropolis of Korça has been standing by poor and needy families for many years now. An early tradition of the Orthodox Church, which started in 1967 and continues to this day, is organized through donations.

In Menca "Service of Love", the needy people of the city of Korça can receive all three meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, for 5 days a week. Through cooking in this mensa, the latter receive not only food but also love and warmth, as well as the dedication of this church to help the poor as much as possible.

Cna Tv followed one of these days where people in need approached the canteen to fill their bowls with the food prepared for lunch, and left thanking the Metropolitan Monsignor Joani and all the staff of the church.

That Anesti Thimo has shown in an interview for CNA, that this real organization has been taking place in Korça for more than 27 years, as a tradition started in 1967.

"The Metropolis of Korça, under the instructions of Metropolitan Joani, has been managing these services for the poor for years. We have been around for 27 years, where as a real organization it started in 1997. An early tradition of the Orthodox Church, since before 1967 , through the donations given by the believers from that time and today. We currently give meals 5 days a week. There have been more in number, now has been reduced, where before it reached up to 150 people, while today it varies up to 100 people, especially in the summer period when there are more. These families who receive all three meals are without support."

In his Sunday sermons, Monsignor Joan Pelushi focuses on helping the poor, and believers are always ready to help. Besides them, an important part of the donations are also well-known figures in Albania.

In his speech, Father Anesti Thimo did not fail to mention the great help of the "Mane" Foundation and the journalist Elvi Fundo, thanking them with gratitude.

In addition to the meals that are provided 5 days a week, through these donations it has become possible to distribute packages to around 130 needy families on the Christmas holiday.

"All the donations have been from the believers. From time to time, Monsignor John, in his Sunday sermons, mentions helping the poor, and the believers are always ready. At the same time, some businesses also give a big help. For several years , the "Mane" Foundation with Samir Mane and Elvi Fundon, together with their staff, has provided us with an overwhelming amount of aid still, we see the help of the aforementioned persons, and a real increase of the faithful around the Holy Metropolis to cope with all that we need. We also have another help that we give to people in need at every Christmas and Easter, we give out about 120-130 more packages. It's been three days since we started distributing these packages. It's a great pleasure that we have this contribution from their side, but we also have a spiritual warmth from all believers, even outside the Orthodox faith."

At the end of the interview, Father Anest Thimo addressed a call to all believers inside or outside Korça, to join this initiative and give their help so that the Holy Metropolis continues to meet all the demands of the poor. Among other things, he thanked all those who provided help, wishing them health and prosperity in their families.

"I call on all believers who have opportunities inside or outside the city, to give a little help, so that we are ready to face all kinds of requests. This is our wish, these are the opportunities that have been given so far today, we thank all those who have given help and wish them a good job, health and prosperity in the family."

The Holy Metropolis of Korça and Radio "Njjalja" continue the early tradition of helping families in need. On this eve of the holidays, the poor will be able to celebrate with full tables, not feeling the difficulty of living. In addition to the aid, they can be fed at the canteen "Serve of Love" in all three meals for 5 days a week./ CNA
