The increase in pensions by 4.1% has brought the harsh reaction of pensioners in Korça, who have expressed their indignation at the government through interviews on CNA TV.
In September, the government decided to increase pensions by 4.1%, which, converted to lek, amount to between 4 thousand and 8 thousand old lek. This is a ridiculous increase, which does not help pensioners at all , who are the strata that face more difficulties, starting from the fact that they have to pay for medicine, food and other things needed on a daily basis. With the low pensions, they cannot ensure a living under normal conditions, while according to them, the government continues to make fun of them in an ugly way.
Pensioners do not consider this low increase at all, taking into account that on the other hand, food prices have increased and reimbursements for medicines that they have to buy once every two months have been removed.
"It's too little, what to do with the 4-7 thousand lek we get? 220 is my pension, I haven't received it yet because I get it on the 20th. What should you get first? Medicines, wood, food? With a dropper! For the pensioners, the government should raise the money, let us also eat a fruit, because we look at it and we can't get it", said the pensioner.
"4% for low pensions is a joke that with 200 thousand ALL the month does not end. Who has a different support, who doesn't... We look at the people in Korça who are fighting for a living", declared another .
"I actually have a good pension because I was a soldier, but the increase is little because pensioners are the poorest class. So the government and the state think about them. No, we can't do it, we have our own people who have low pensions and they can't make it," said the pensioner.
Near the "Shën Meria" flower garden in the city every morning the pensioners sit down with each other to spend a few hours together, playing dominoes and talking and discussing about the problems they face every day. The discussion of low pensions is the main topic of every day for these pensioners, who consider the 4.1% increase as a mockery of the government. They make a painful comparison with Africa, which is known as a poor country, but according to them, Albania is the poorest in the world.
"It's useless to call it a pension. It is to keep the soul alive. This people has worked harder than other peoples and this country is richer than other countries, but we are the poorest in the world. Neither in Africa you cannot find it. Edi Rama wants us to die. Therefore, if a change is not made, then this nation is finished," said the citizen.
"The 4% increase is not an increase in my opinion. If you look at the water bill, the water tax has increased, I used to pay 17-18 thousand old lek for water, now I pay 27 thousand old lek. How does this increase affect him? Allegedly the pension increased, but the prices in the bazaar have increased", said another.
"I used to get 35,000 ALL, I have 70,000 as a pension now. I need 100,000 for medicine because I suffer from heart disease. What can I say? It's a shame for the world, let everyone hear it," declared the pensioner.
The pensioners throw accusations at Prime Minister Rama, saying that he only thinks about himself and not at all about the pensioners. There are also rural pensioners, who receive less lek compared to the city and are even more in difficulty.
"Nothing at all, it's nothing. I heard that I received 4,000 lek a month, what can I get with this money? I can't buy medicine. I also have a pensioner, from 4,000, we get 8,000 old lek. What? To talk about Edi Rama? He thinks about himself, he doesn't think about me", stressed the pensioner.
"I think it's so nice and sweet that I can drink 4-5 coffees. The government is upside down. How do we afford it? What can we afford? I'm on a village pension, I can't afford it. Let's get a share that they get a little better. We also raised our medicines, we had them with a refund, but they took them away. Let alone the food," underlined another.
The increase in pensions by 4.1% comes after the increase in the price of water in the city of Korça, as well as food. Among other things, the reimbursement of some medicines has been reduced for pensioners, bringing even more difficulties in meeting the monthly costs./ CNA TV
