October 10, World Mental Health Day/ Cases are increasing in Korça

2024-10-10 15:14:00, Qyteti im CNA

The current situation in the Southeast regarding mental health patients continues to remain problematic with an increase in cases of their cartelization near the Mental Health Center. In recent years, people affected by mental health diseases have often become contingents of serious criminal offenses, while there are also people who have tragically lost their lives by undertaking serious acts such as suicide.

On this day, what is most important for psychiatrist Nikolina Bode is the awareness of people who show mental health problems, and more so of their family members and relatives who should speak to the authorities to get a solution to the problem.

For the psychiatrist, an untreated depression is life-threatening.

"Today is a special day and we must learn to care for people, to recognize the problems we have, to know ourselves, without the situation defeating us. The disease is advanced when we are brought to us by other people for service or cases are referred, or we know the case tragically. This should not be the case. An untreated depression, as simple as it is, becomes a major and life-threatening problem. Asking for help is half the solution ."

At the Mental Health Center, in Korça, there are many difficult and problematic cases related to contingents of criminal offenses and people who consume narcotics. Although they are considered difficult cases, for the psychiatrist there is always a solution and hope for these people.

"Difficult, problematic, or contingent cases of criminal offenses and cases of narcotics are in our daily work, but there is always a solution. If the problem is illness, the first aid is the professionals for every patient. Contact with them is easily resolved , today we have many psychologists in sectors and institutions, and we also receive guidance for other professionals if the problem requires a solution. If the problem with forms of violence is not related to mental health, but is a criminal offense, it is part of the legal system."

The age groups most affected by mental health diseases, in addition to the active age, are the young and pre-teens, as well as the third age over 70 years old. The situation becomes even more alarming for the users of narcotics, which have recently also affected the female gender, having many girls who have become users.

"The most fragile ages that I would differentiate is the reduction of young age, small ages, even pre-adolescence, which are grown-up children with social problems, family crises and experience in early childhood symptoms of anxiety, feeding problems, mood. There are early problematic cases, while the age of consumption of narcotic substances has decreased, affecting more women. Today, the third age is the most vulnerable, where the problem is the most the biggest of them are chronic diseases and being alone with relatives in emigration."

On the other hand, doctor Nikolina Bode informs that there are also cases of small children, who are brought for consultation by their parents and guardians. In these cases, it is the parents themselves who must identify the problem and take other steps to prevent the worsening of their children's psychological condition.

"Yes, more and more we are contacting children brought by parents, guardians, it is the best way to identify the problem because a child cannot ask for help on his own, he must have care and a strong connection with other people. The problem is more difficult when it is brought by the institution because the cost of the solution is greater."

At the Mental Health Care Center in Korça, around 3,700 people have been cartelized, a number that is considered high compared to other years. On October 10, there was no shortage of calls from doctors to raise awareness of the people who show symptoms such as anxiety, fear, lack of mood, but also of family members and relatives who notice these symptoms in certain people./ CNA
