Gathers young people passionate about science/ NASA's biggest Hackathon, in Korça

For the first time in the city of Korça, the largest NASA SpaceApps Challenge Hackathon is coming, a project where young people from all over Albania will be part of 20 challenges and will compete with 70,000 young people from all over the world on this NASA platform . This project comes for the 10th time in Albania, while this year Korça was selected in order to involve the young people of this city in this important project.

The best example of a success story is that of the 17-year-old from Korça, Blendi Avdolli, who won the gold medal at the World Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence in Saudi Arabia. 90 competitors from all over the world took part in this Olympiad, but 17-year-old Avdolli managed to win the medal. In this Olympiad, young people took part in the Python language competition and then faced logical, algorithmic and probability related questions.

"I am 17 years old and this year I won the gold medal in the World Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence in Saudi Arabia. The Olympiad took place from September 8 to 12, 90 competitors from all over the world participated, the most powerful countries such as America, the Netherlands, China, etc. I won a gold medal out of 90 competitors. We had a competition which was in the python language, then we had a second round which was with questions about logic, algorithm and probability", said the young man.

The task of the young people in this Olympiad was to create an artificial intelligence that predicts fires in Africa. The 17-year-old Avdolli was evaluated by the lowest percentages of error in the program created to predict the fires of 2018. Blendi Avdolli this year comes as a mentor in the Nasa project to give his contribution, which started at the age of 10 year.

"Our task was to create an artificial intelligence that predicts fires in Africa. We had data of previous fires from 2001 to 2017 and we had to predict where the fires would fall in 2018. The assessment was made by the error rate our program had and my program had one of the lowest error rates out of 90 competitors.To be honest I have been working and studying the python programming language for 7 years together with the pimples, the mentors and the Albanian ICT Academy. The fruit of the 7 years was the gold medal in the First World Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. I came to the Nasa Space Apps Challenge as a mentor, but before that I was a competitor, winning the third place once the second place", said Blendi Avdolli.

Hatixhe Bilibashi, drejtuese e projektit Nasa International Space Apps Challenge për Shqipërinë ka treguar detaje sa i përket këtij projekti dhe rëndësinë e madhe që ai ka për të rinjtë të cilët duan të zhvillojnë aftësitë e tyre. Bilibashi thotë se këtë vit marrin pjesë rreth 70 mijë të rinj nga e gjithë bota, ku 60 prej tyre janë nga Shqipëria.

"Jemi për të 10-tin vit radhazi. Nasa International Space Apps Challenge është një Hackathon, i cili zhvillohet paralelisht në të gjitha shtetet e botës. Këtë vit marrin pjesë rreth 70 000 të rinj nga e gjithë bota ku njekohësisht kemi rreth 60 të rinj që janë pjesë e këtij konkursi nga Shqipëria. Çfarë kemi risi gjatë ketij viti? Mund të themi që për 9-të vite kemi zhvilluar në Tiranë Albanian ICT Academy që e sjell këtë projekt në Shqipëri. Në vitin e 10- të kemi ardhur në Korçë duke qënë se kemi një seli të dytë në Korçë dhe kemi patur dëshirë që të përfshijmë edhe të rinjtë e Korçës, duke i bashkuar edhe me të rinjtë e Tiranës dhe njëkohësisht të rinjtë e gjithë botës për të fituar nga kjo eksperiencë. Njëkohësisht për të dhënë idetë e tyre lidhur me zgjidhjet që NASA kërkon për sfida të ndryshme që i ka hedhur në dispozicion të këtyre të rinjve", u shpreh ajo.

Për drejtuesen e projektit, në këtë vit do të ketë 20 sfida në dispozicion, të cilat kanë lidhje me planetet, identifikimin e zjarreve, ruajtjen e efiçiencës së energjisë, ku zgjidhjen për këto do ta japin pikërisht këta të rinj.

"Pse NASA e bën këtë Hackathon e pse i grupon këta të rinj, jo vetem nga Shqipëra por nga e gjithë bota? Le të themi që këtu janë të gjitha ato mendjet që kërkohen, ose ai kapitali intelektual që kërkohet jo vetëm nga Shqipëria por nga e gjithë bota, për të dhënë zgjidhjet e ndryshme, të cilat NASA deri sot edhe pse ne themi që NASA nuk ka arritur të japë zgjidhje për këto sfida që janë aktuale në të gjithë botën. Ju vë në dispozicion te dhëna dhe librari që NASA i ka në hapësirat e veta dhe këta të rinj kanë akses për t’i përdorur dhe t’i japin zgjidhje sfidave. Këtë vit janë 20 sfida në dispozicion, janë sfida nga më të ndryshmet që kanë lidhje me planete të ndryshme, me planetin e Hënës, kanë lidhje me hapësirën e Tokës, me identifikimin e zjarreve të problematikave të ndryshme, për ruajtjen e efiçencës së energjisë dhe kërkohet zgjidhje nga këta të rinj", tha Hatixhe Bilibashi.

Shqipëria, sipas Bilibashit, ka patur një sukses shumë të lartë në dy vitet e fundit, ndërsa pritshmëritë janë që të rinjtë shqiptarë të arrijnë të fitojnë një nga çmimet që vë NASA në dispozicion.

"Albania has had a much higher success in the last two years because we have had two groups nominated for awards and we very much hope that this year by uniting young people we have not only come to beautiful Kor?a, to the Kor?a of serenades to unite the beautiful minds of Korça and other young people from all over Albania, and why not win one of the prizes that NASA makes available and give these young people the opportunity to go to NASA", she declared.

The young people who will face the 20 challenges of the NASA project, will have the opportunity, in case of high results, to continue the journey even higher, visiting the organization in the USA./ CNA
