For the first time, the Koran festival is held in Pogradec

For the first year, the "Koran" festival was held in Pogradec. In this activity, there are many promotional activities of the area and the presentation of traditional cuisine.

The festival started with the throwing of the Koran rasat, where more than 1.8 million individuals of the species were thrown into the lake, apparently from North Macedonia, where rasat has not been thrown for 4 years.

While this year marked the record selling price of the Koran, which started from 3,500 new shekels in the wholesale market.

"This year is increasing compared to last year where a record was reached that has not happened for 30 years where it is 1 million 840 thousand and we have been promised by the Ministry of Agriculture that we can have additions to the capacities of the center and support of we have always had to increase production. This goes on in two stages, there is a spawning that takes place from June to the end of August and then it starts in October-November and then in January we start collecting the eggs. The Koran was on the verge of extinction and in recent years, in cooperation with the association with the Ministry of Agriculture, the inspectorate, administrative measures have done their job and fishermen have become more aware. Because tourism has increased and the price even this year was a record 3500 new, so the fisherman is protecting it more because he is earning more. The price increased because there is demand from hotels, since tourism is increasing from year to year", said Olsi Çekiçi.

The Koran Festival is added to the annual calendar of activities in Pogradec, as a way to increase the tourist offer. While the season that we are leaving behind, has been the most successful for the Mayor of Pogradec Ilir Xhakolli.

"Pogradec continues to implement the calendar of projects it had all year. The tourist season is over, but we continue to create other activities, such as today this holiday, we unintentionally left it on this date, since the rasat of the Koran is also thrown in this period. This year we throw over 2 million rasas, which is a record number, and therefore, because the Koran is a unique species, we want to include it in our calendar to be a celebration as it belongs because it is the king of the lake. Unfortunately, the weather today did not hold us so well as we have created an activity throughout the day, even with the productions of tourist operators with cooking in different forms of the Koran and in the afternoon with an artistic activity. I wish that all the citizens of Pogradec come and celebrate on this day. Pogradeci has entered the cities with 4-season tourism and we will continue with various activities until the end of the year, but according to the data I have, Pogradeci consumes 25 tons of waste that we take to the landfill, in fact during the season there were 100 tons in days showing that during the season Pogradeci has tripled", said Xhakolli.

The representatives of various restaurants were also part of the activity, who presented traditional Koran-based dishes at specially placed stands. The dishes will be evaluated by a jury made up of well-known chefs, who will award 3 prizes for the best cooking. Meanwhile, in the menus presented by the restaurants, the main dish is that of the Koran.

Performances by the city's artists, local cuisine and a variety of other activities were planned for this festival, while the evening culminates with a concert conducted by Dren Abazi and the Zigzag Orchestra./ CNA
