2024-07-03 20:47:00, Qyteti im CNA

The art of painting is the art of the soul, of his feelings, where every artist finds himself but also expresses what he feels. The city of Pogradec is fortunate to have many well-known figures who have dedicated their lives to art, and more specifically to painting. One of them is Qemal Guri, who has been practicing his passion in painting for more than 35 years. Everyone in the city knows Qemali as a simple man, a beloved character, but also an artist with many values.

For him, painting is his whole life, his whole spiritual world that takes him away from reality and gives him sensations indescribable in words. The moment he paints, he forgets every problem of his everyday life, leaves reality and focuses on the colors he puts on the canvas. Qemal's talent was spotted by his Russian language teacher from childhood, suggesting that he continue his studies in this field in order to never give up this passion that is his whole life.

CNA TV brings to the viewers this special character who has told a lot about the beginnings of this passion, its progress during these years and the satisfaction that people have given him when they have seen his works.

"I started painting since childhood, I drew, scribbled in books and notebooks, until one fine day, my teacher who taught the Russian language, took an interest in me and I went to school for painting. That's where my life took a path towards art , where I learned about painting, where I got the right culture for art and I still paint. My life is art, painting."

Today, the painter is in his 60s, where he has dedicated 40 years of his life to his passion and love for painting. Qemali develops his talent in all genres, starting with pencil drawings, portraits, watercolors, but especially landscapes. The moment and the moment is what he puts on the canvas, along with the feeling that this moment conveys. Qemali says that even the cold winter, through colors, he makes warm for the eyes of art lovers.

"I am almost 60 years old, I have been painting for 35-40 years without a row and I am very satisfied with the work I do. I cultivate all genres, both landscape, still life, and portrait, especially pencil drawings that unfortunately I don't have the watercolor here, and I rather like the landscape, not because it's easier to paint, but because our city is beautiful and has many rare beauties there are very beautiful moments and I like these moments when I capture them. In my personal exhibition, the first one, I titled it 'Moment', because I like to paint the moment, when it rains, when it is sunset, when it is a foggy day . Even winter, no matter how cold it is, I make it warm."

Although he has health problems, his passion and love for painting has never stopped the artist from continuing his work.

"When I paint, I'm in another world, not in real life, I think about what I'm going to add, I play with the colors because they come from the soul and it's a very beautiful moment when I paint. Although I'm not allowed to paint a lot because I have problems health with my eyes, but still I go on."

Hundreds of different works are in the long-term collection of Qemal Guri, where most of them are already in the hands of citizens who love painting. But, the artist singles out a painting that is most dear to him and keeps it in his home as the most expensive thing.

"I have one that I single out, it is at home, my father's painting with which I won the first prize with the young talents in 1987 in Durrës. It is a moment of meditation, really very beautiful. I also have many other paintings beautiful."

A total of 3 exhibitions have been opened by the painter, with about 300 of his works, while the desire is great to open another exhibition even though there was a break of several months leaving for America, but he returned to the city of Pogradec to continue the work to make the fourth exhibition a reality.

"I opened three personal exhibitions, the first with 90 works, the second with 75 works in Tushemisht and the third with 120 works. I think of opening another exhibition but I have to work. I had a bit of a break after I went to America for 3 months and this year I couldn't open an exhibition. Maybe next year, I'll do some more work the way I want, I say open it."

Qemal Guri can be found every weekend at the entrance to the village of Tushemisht, where he places dozens of his paintings for the citizens and visitors of Pogradec. The painter says that the most buyers are from Albania, but there are also foreigners who prefer the landscapes and portraits that he displays on the railings. The greatest pleasure for Qemali is precisely those young people, who congratulate him for the wonderful work he has put on the canvas. This is exactly what young people fill their hearts with the beautiful words they express, although they are few in number.

"I come here every Saturday and Sunday, in the summer I also go to the flower shop in the city. My paintings have been sold everywhere, both abroad and in Albania. Most of the buyers are Albanians. I really like the fact that Albanians like them art or know how to decorate the house with handicrafts like paintings. But even foreigners buy, but not at the right level. I have many friends, who have bought many paintings. It is not a great joy that the fact that especially young people come to see them, say 'Lick your hands' and leave. This is because young people are the least interested in art."

For the city of Pogradec, Qemal Guri is the best example of an artist who, despite his health, does not give up his great passion for painting. With a career of almost 40 years, this passion continues to this day even more, to bring to life different objects, special moments and moments, as well as wonderful landscapes of nature that this city offers. You can find Qemal Guri every Saturday and Sunday near the tourist village of Tushemishti, painting and waiting for citizens and visitors to see and appreciate his fantastic works./ CNA
