Albania has become an increasingly popular destination for Brits looking for affordable holidays and sunny weather. For many, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters make Thailand a bucket list holiday destination, but prices are high. For vacationers who want to enjoy a slice of paradise but can't afford the expensive flights, they'll be pleased to discover that there's an alternative much closer to "home."

Albania is located between Montenegro and Greece and the destination has experienced an influx of visitors in recent years, writes "The Sun". 

The rise in popularity of the country is mainly thanks to its promotion on "TikTok" and social media influencers who have vacationed on the Albanian Riviera.

While places like Ksamil and Saranda in Albania have seen an increase in popularity in recent years, some parts of Albania have remained under the tourist radar.

One of these places is the Shala River, a little-known bay in the north of the country. Videos of Lumi i Shala are routinely featured on social media platforms such as TikTok.

The river has been called the "Thailand of Albania" thanks to its crystal clear waters, vegetation and steep mountains, according to the travel website "North Albania".

Located in northern Albania, vacationers can reach the dream river via a day trip from Tirana or Shkodra. From the Albanian capital, tourists will need to book an excursion to visit the Shala River - and the journey takes four hours by car.
