Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the intergovernmental conference in Brussels, stated that Albania is on the right track when it comes to the negotiation calendar with the European Union.
He expressed his optimism about the closure of other chapters, adding that the Irish presidency gives him comfort for the further continuation of the process.
" What is important is that so far we are on the right track with the very ambitious timetable that has been discussed and agreed in our mutual interaction with the Commission. Thanks to the continuous homework that we have done, we say that the timetable is becoming more and more ambitious and we need to work harder, continuously."
If the atmosphere continues to be what we have experienced during this recent period, everything will be where it should be. So far we have no reason to believe that there will be a change in the atmosphere. Yesterday, at the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, there was also an approach, a perspective on this process for the countries that are in active negotiations. One could feel that everyone is keen to find faster ways to make this possible.
That's why I am optimistic in the most Albanian way. Ready to move forward and face the challenges that will arise. The Irish presidency gives us comfort, because Ireland is a country that has proven that exponential progress is possible and that the Irish accept nothing but excellence as a goal. Being excellent in the objective of the presidency means closing more chapters with us by the end of the year. We trust our Irish friends. So far, so good ," said Rama.
Regarding the closing of chapters and intergovernmental conferences, Irish Minister Thomas Byrne also spoke, saying that enlargement is a key point of their presidency, while adding that where milestones and standards are met, they will be ready for other conferences.
"We will continue to pursue this agenda. We have made enlargement a priority. Where we see that the milestones have been met and the standards have been met, we will be ready for further conferences. We wanted to make sure that all the things were in the right place. Two weeks ago we did not think this would happen. We will continue to pursue the enlargement process with great vigor," Byrne said. /CNA
